The theme of near and far refers to several aspects of the exhibition. The locations that inspired Diggory’s work are close by in the Adirondacks of New York and across the ocean in southern France where she travelled for three weeks in spring 2022. The compositions that combine the close by with the far away are a celebration of the complexity of relationships seen and painted. Those spaces include deep passages in which the foregrounds either dissolve or serve as anchors. Additionally, the act of painting itself creates a tension between the near-at-hand surface and the evocation of a magical world of space, light and energy.

“The exhibition focuses on my artwork of the natural world, which continues to inspire me, often as a refuge.  While the subject matter varies, I am always concerned with creating a dynamic set of rhythms, curves and lines that move the eye all around the surface and through the suggested locations.  The artworks are based on close observation but not mimicry, with a preference for dynamic instability, sometimes barely contained. That restlessness of the expression has been increasing in recent years.”

A catalog will be available of the exhibition.
