It seems like the negative forces in our world are especially great these days. We want to stand tall against them.
Blue Mountain Gallery has always had an ethic for valuing life and individual expression over monetary gain. What it means to be human, in all the possible ways we can explore existence though art, is foundational among our members.
This show, where we adhere to a new shared dimension of size: 48” tall x 24” wide, with some members choosing a narrower format – but always a consistent height, will be a funifying and unifying exhibit.
So often, in group shows, we have seen a variety of shapes and sizes – again highlighting our individuality. But don’t we all have the same physiognomy? One head, one nose, one mouth, two ears, two eyes... Yet we are all unique. That dichotomy: individuality v. sameness, is a duality we are always mediating. We are one, and we are different, and we are one – all members of an inclusive group, and always welcoming new members; with shared responsibility for the benefit of all.
A big part of the adventure of this show will be the relationships from image to image as the work is arranged in the gallery. Will there be subtexts, subtle allusions, or silly juxtapositions? In any case, the hanging committee is going to have a ball with this!
