Reception: Saturday,  Oct 10, 3-6 pm

CLOSING RECEPTION, OCTOBER 31 FROM 3 TO 6 PM

The Blue Mountain Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent landscape paintings by Theresa Bartol. This exhibition is comprised of paintings from several trips to New Mexico and to the Catskills in New York.

Inspired by the pre-Impressionist masters,Ms. Bartol’s landscapes are representational in style, yet painted with the eye of an abstract expressionist. In these new works, her brushwork has become more fluid. Her extensive color palette depicts various permutations of color as the light is reflected off its subjects and the as the sun transitions from day to dusk. Skies relate closely to the landscape and its subjects in harmonious and integral patterns of light and shade.

Theresa received her MFA from Brooklyn College where she studied under Philip Pearlstein. In the founding years of the New York Studio School she worked alongside fellow artists Mercedes Matter, Milton Resnick, Philip Guston, and George McNeil. Her exposure to these artists, and to others from Hans Hoffman’s classes who frequently visited and critiqued students’ work, she considers not only a valued gift but fundamental to her development as an artist.

Theresa has exhibited at Sherry French Gallery NY, Ben Mangel Gallery Philadelphia, Haber Theodore Gallery NY, and Semion Gallery CA. She has also exhibited widely in group shows at other venues, including the National Arts Club. An NAC Exhibiting Artist Member, she is also a recipient of the Club’s President’s and Grumbacher Awards.
